Meeting Report

January 30, 2024

We played:

Thanks to Pace for taking notes.

Schedule

We meet on Tuesdays at 7:45 pm, at 233 Broadway, Cambridge, MA. Let me know if you want to come.

Tuesday, March 5, is the Presidential Primary in Massachusetts, so I am unlikely to make much if any of the meeting. People are still welcome to come meet here if they want to.

Unpacking progress

Someone is coming to take away boxes of books and records on Friday, February 16. So if you want to go through and snarf things, you should do it before that. Also, they want to pick up from the sidewalk or the first floor (I think American terminology), so some help moving boxes downstairs before then would be appreciated.

After that happens, there will be no unpacked boxes on the first floor (European terminology), and I’m hoping to get a lot of the books on the second floor packed up for them as well.

Unpacking progress

The LP’s are getting unpacked, so anyone who doesn’t have as many as they want can go through the boxes of discards and take what they want.

Moving progress

The TV set and the stereo are now talking to each other. I still have to hook up the rear speakers for surround sound, but I feel much more moved in.

You are still welcome to arrive early to help with running up and down ladders and hanging things and getting things to work. Although I can reach all the boxes, there is still furniture that needs to be elsewhere, some of which I can use help with.

Weather cancellations

The official policy is that we cancel rehearsals if there’s a declared snow emergency in Cambridge. Of course everyone should make their own decisions about safety and comfort. If most people decide that their safety and comfort demand not coming to rehearsal, I will announce that there isn’t critical mass for a rehearsal and we aren’t having it.

http://serpentpublications.org/~lconrad/music/renband/xmas/invitation.pdI don’t see any reason not to meet on Tuesday, December 26, unless nobody wants to come. If we’re partied out after Monday, January 1, we might not feel like meeting on Tuesday, January 2. After that, we resume our normal almost every week schedule.

Party planning

Nobody complained about or suggested alternative dates to a January 1 party, so we will have one.

Here’s an invitation. which you can print out and give to all your friends. Especially give it to anyone you think might be interested in coming on Tuesdays; our brochure is on the back.

The party will start at 4 pm, and go until everyone turns into pumpkins. Which these days is surprisingly early.

November 28

Schedule

We meet on Tuesdays at 7:45 pm, at 233 Broadway, Cambridge, MA. Let me know if you want to come.

Moving progress

There is actual progress – I can get to almost all the boxes without assistence, and nearly all the furniture is in the room it goes in, if not the exact spot it’s going to end up in. Many thanks to everyone who helped, especially Anne, Judy, Pace, and Zeke.

You are still welcome to arrive early to help with running up and down ladders and hanging things and getting things to work.

Party planning

It looks like we will be able to combine the annual holiday party with the housewarming party. I would not have guessed that if I got all my stuff in May I wouldn’t be able to celebrate being moved in until January, but it’s really been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.

The last few years when there’s been a holiday party, it’s been on January 1. Let me know if you think that needs discussion this year.

Schedule

We meet on Tuesdays at 7:45 pm, at 233 Broadway, Cambridge, MA. Let me know if you want to come.

Moving progress

People are still welcome to arrive early to help with the boxes. The current project is to move enough stuff out of the computer room that we can put the bookcases in place so that the boxes of books can be unpacked. One hope this can be accomplished while still leaving enough room in the small room to move the small futon back there.

Much of the jetsam described in previous emails is still available, although I put the wok in the trash last week.

Concert opportunity

Ensemble 44 (Including Ishmael, and some other people you may know) will be performing two concerts this season – First Church on December 1st at 8pm, St. Peters in Salem MA on December 16 at 5pm, to be followed by a light supper.

Schedule

This Tuesday I’ll be working the election and won’t get home until after 9. So whoever shows up will be running the meeting.

Jetsam

The old receiver, the wok, and the coffee making equipment are still available.

I have now turned up an ice cream making machine. It’s the kind where you need to use ice and salt, or dry ice – there’s no refrigeration.

The paperback novels are mostly going to be donated, so if there’s an author you would like to own more of in dead-tree form, let me know, and I’ll lay them aside for you.

Schedule

We are making progress on the boxes – we’re probably about where I expected to be last May. I can access most of the boxes without help.

I’ve found quite a lot of stuff including the printer and the old desktop computer. It looks like the good stainless flatware has gone forever, but of course it could have ended up under books in a box I haven’t unpacked yet..

Jetsam

The old receiver and the wok are still available, although I expect most people our age have as many of those as they want.

I had acquired a quite good set of coffee making equipment before I decided that even decaf was too strong a drug for me. So if you have any desire for a roaster or a grinder, let me know.
