Playing Opportunity

The Boston Recorder Society Loud Band will be meeting again this year at Leslie College on mostly second Sundays of the month.

It was originally for early reed and brass instruments, but is now using the term “loud winds” very loosely. We expect a viiolin this year; there’s a recorder player who likes us better than what the recorders were doing even when they were doing anything; there are loud wintd players who don’t have the lip muscles to play all evening so they switch to recorders.

So if you’re interested, you should let Linda Kush know. If you want more information, ask me, Linda, John Maloney, or any of the other recent participants.

Again this week we already know that a couple of regulars won’t be here, so I would especially like to know by the time I go to bed tonight whether we have a quorum tomorrow. I will pass that information on as soon as I have it to other people who would like to know.

Moving notes

I’ve been kind of stuck on completing the unpacking of boxes, because I can’t move any of the ones that are left. So if one or two people who are stronger than I am could go upstairs to the computer room and move one or two unpacked boxes from their stacks to the the futons, it would be helpful.

It’s been a year since I moved back in, and 14 months since the boxes arrived, so I’m thinking it’s about time I had the use of all my rooms and of all the stuff that survived the fire/demolition/movers…

Warmup piece

We have decided it’s time to move on to something else, so we will say goodbye to Tant que vivray, maybe by playing several orchestrations.

And we will start the new warmup piece, Scaramella. It’s a little bit more polyphonic than what we’ve been using for warmup, but it does have lots of cadences for working on tuning, and it’s a good piece for crumhorns and other raucus instruments.

Let me know if you need me to print one for you.

Performing

I heard no response to last week‘s poll about interest in performing informally sometime this summer. So I’m putting the idea on hold until I hear more people express interest.

Performing?

There has been a suggestion that we should go down to the banks of the Charles River some pleasant weekend afternoon and play a short set. It wouldn’t be like having the tens of thousands of people we used to have for the Walk for Hunger, but it would have some of the same benefits. And since we wouldn’t be depending on the tens of thousands of people, we could have an alternate date for if the weather was bad. And we’d only have to play for how long we wanted to instead of signing up for five hours.

We’d need a critical mass of people who were willing to commit to coming on Tuesday for four weeks in a row, and to playing outside on the selected date and alternate date.

So if you’re interested in this, let me know.
