News of the week of November 1, 2022

Schedule

We meet on Tuesdays at 7:45 pm at the home of Wendy Goble and Richard Schmeidler in Arlington Center. Please let me know if you want to come.

We will not be meeting on Tuesday, November 8, as it’s election day. Please vote.

Playing Opportunity

The Boston Recorder Society is resuming in-person meetings this month, with a meeting on Sunday, November 6, 6:30-9:00PM. The Loud Wind group will be coached by Bruce Randall. The recorders will be coached by Eloise Degrugillier.

Note that “Loud Winds” is interpreted very loosely. It has often included both recorders and string players.

If you want to go, you should register in advance on the BRS site. I won’t be going this month, because it’s too busy of a week to do that much driving for that little playing, but I’m sure the people who go will have fun.

Figure 1: Sue and Bizzi with ice cream

Sue Cornwall, who played with us briefly in 2009, died on Monday, October 31. During that time, she hosted a particularly memorable meeting, with good food, good beer, and a kitchen wall full of rat cages.

People who saw her after 2018, remember her constant companion, Bizzi. She told me about taking him with her on a trip to France. Aparently French restaurants are as welcoming to dogs as one remembers, but museums are not, so she didn’t see as many museums as she expected.

Her funeral will be next Saturday, Nov 12, at First Parish UUA, 14 Bedford Rd. Lincoln. I have her husband’s address for sympathy notes, if anyone would like to send one.
