Performance Report

The weather was cool and cloudy — perfect for the walkers.
There were 5 raindrops at about noon, but nothing to justify how
freaked out some of the new performers were by the idea of playing
in the rain.

Our sets of dances by Susato and Holborne went well. We played
the Fairie
Round
on almost no rehearsal and people clapped and
cheered.

A welcome improvement this year was that we had a guest group
who alternated sets with us. This meant that our breaks could be
long enough to get to the bathroom and back, and that we got to
hear as well as play beautiful music. They opened with a
poignantly beautiful Il
bianco e dolce cigno
. Also striking was their arrangment
of “Quem Pastores”.

Walk for Hunger

We’ll be playing at our usual spot on Greenough Boulevard,
right on the river, on the Cambridge/Watertown line. Come by and
say hello, or even sit in for a tune or two. We’ll have a group
alternating sets with us who actually rehearse together, so they
should be fun to listen to as well.

performance on May 6 from 11 to 4 on your
calendar. This is a performance for 10’s of
thousands of people, not a casual drop-in
group like most of our meetings.

Walk for Hunger

[Walk for Hunger]
Walk for Hunger, 2010

We have again been asked to play for the Walk for
Hunger
. This will be on Sunday, May 6. This
year we will be playing from 11 to 4, instead of
our former 10 to 3.

This year it will be mostly a recorder group. We are again
looking for a group that could alternate with us
so that everybody gets good breaks. We’d also
like to recruit some recorder players who like
playing Renaissance dance music to play with us. I’m planning on
just one rehearsal, so they should be reasonably
good sightreaders. Encourage anyone you know who
might be willing to help to talk to me about the details.
