Party Invitation

Who, what, when, and where

[durer holy family]

Our party this year will be on Tuesday, January 1, 2019, starting at 4pm
at 233 Broadway, Cambridge.

Come, and tell everybody you know to bring everybody they
know.

It will be particularly good if people who might be interested
in singing with us on Tuesdays could be invited.

Let me know if you’re coming, and if you want to bring
something to eat or drink. Since I’m hosting with only one
foot, if you want to eat complicated cooking, you’ll have to
bring it.

Hard copies

This invitation is letterpaper sized, and has the flyer on the back.

Because of having only one foot, I haven’t been able to make
the one that folds into quarters and fits in a pocket.

Meeting Report

Schedule

We normally meet Tuesdays at 7:45 pm, at 233 Broadway, Cambridge, as
long as enough people have told me by Monday night that they want
to come.

There will be two exceptions to that in the near future – we will not meet on
Christmas, December 25, and on January 1 we will be partying
starting at 4pm instead of having our regular meeting at 7:45.

Party

Dickens-Christmas

It looks like we have decided to have the usual holiday music
party on January 1, starting at 4pm. I will likely still be
one-footed, so other people will have to do more of the work than
usual, but if the first people to come set up and the last people
to leave help with cleanup and trash disposal, and anyone who
wants to eat fancy cooking brings it, it should still be a good
party.

Two things hospitals do that you would think they wouldn’t

[broken ankle]

I’m not saying there isn’t lots of evidence that many or even
most of the staffs of the hospitals I’ve been in are
intelligent, caring, dedicated people. But these seem like
issues that someone like that would be able to fix.

My most recent stay was overnight after surgery for a broken
ankle, and my previous stays have not involved a lot of bedpans,
but they have all involved surgeons who think they’ve told me
things.

Surgeon’s and communication

This one I’m sure is common, because it’s happened every time
I’ve had general anaesthesia. Apparently, when you’re coming out
of it, there’s a period when you look awake, but you don’t really
remember anything that happens then.

This is when surgeons all come over and tell you how the
surgery went.

The nurses all know about this problem, so if you think of it,
and can ask the nurse who was there when the surgeon told you
stuff, she can tell you what you want to know.

Unfortunately, this most recent time, I didn’t think to ask
until I was in my room, and the nurse there said that she thought
it had gone well, but I’d have to ask the doctor for more
details.

Bedpans

I had to use one all night, because they wouldn’t let me get up
until I was cleared by Physical Therapy.

The bedpans are the right size for someone with a normal
bladder who is evacuating some of what they have drunk. They are
way too small for someone who’s getting iv fluids.

Bad news of the week

Broken ankle- Cast detail

I broke my ankle last Wednesday night. I had an operation to
get everything pinned into place on Friday, and
they expect me to recover but I’ll be
non-weightbearing for a couple of months.
